Again for the 2017-2018 school year, Henry Cardenas has been selected as the M.C. Ginsberg Artist in Residence for the Iowa City Community School District. Mr. Cardenas will focus his presentation on music production in each of the District’s 6thgrade classes through the spring. Students will be given the opportunity to use technology and music production software to create their own audio tracks and musical loops. One of the goals of the presentation is to help students understand how math concepts are crucial to making music.
The M.C. Ginsberg Artist in Residence program has brought a local artist to our District elementary schools since 1991. Mark Ginsberg, owner of M.C. Ginsberg Objects of Art and founder of the program, has long believed in the integration of ART in our schools and that ART is necessary to make education complete. Annually, local artists are invited to apply for the M.C. Ginsberg Artist in Residence position in the Iowa City Community Schools. Artists must provide details about how their presentations will integrate their discipline into core academic subject areas, such as language arts, math, science, or social studies.
The M.C. Ginsberg Artist in Residence program is coordinated by Any Given Child Iowa City and funded with the support of the ICCSD Foundation.
