The 2018 Run for the Schools race will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018. This family-friendly event includes Half-Mile, Mile, 5K, 10K and Half-Marathon races, with participants ranging in age from 2 to over 70.
Race participants have the opportunity to raise money for our schools in one of 3 ways:
Run or Walk in the race (Pick a school to support on the registration form to earn your favorite school more money!)
Make a donation for Run for the Schools to the ICCSD Foundation
Volunteer to help on race day – the school you designate can get credit for your participation, earning them a larger monetary award!
The race is title sponsored by MidwestOne Bank and is hosted by Iowa City Road Races. The event has been raising money for Iowa City Community School District and Regina Catholic schools since 1999.
Run for the Schools is a major fundraiser for the Iowa City Community School District schools. In November 2017, the Iowa City Road Race (ICRR) group delivered Participation Award checks to our schools totaling $7,600. These awards to our individual schools’ libraries and physical education departments are based on the number of students, parents, friends, and school staff that walked, ran or volunteered for the event. In addition, ICRR donated an additional $27,400 to the ICCSD Foundation to benefit all of the schools!
In total, between individual school awards, voluntary donations to the ICCSD Foundation, and the race proceeds that are donated back to the ICCSD Foundation by the ICRR group, the 2017 run brought in almost $57,000 for our schools!
Money raised for ICCSD schools through Run for the Schools benefits the ICCSD Foundation’s Excellence Fund – our fund that supports programs in all of the schools such as School of the Wild, Symphony Goes to School, Visiting Author, STEM and MakerSpace related initiatives in the secondary schools, LiveArts@Hancher, KinderTales, and staff recognition and events.
